Ich bastelte gerade an einer Interviewreihe, in der diverse Branchen-Veteran*innen \u00fcber ihre Erfahrungen und ihr Wirken in der Videospielbranche erz\u00e4hlen sollten. Zahlreiche, zahlreiche Interview-Anfragen blieben g\u00e4nzlich unbeantwortet. Ron Gilbert antwortete schon einen Tag sp\u00e4ter und sagte, zu meiner \u00dcberraschung, zu und er bat mich, ihm die Fragen per Mail zukommen zu lassen. Ich war tats\u00e4chlich aufgeregt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ron Gilbert hat nie mehr geantwortet. Nach drei Monaten schickte ich eine h\u00f6flich-zur\u00fcckhaltende Erinnerungsmail; nach weiteren drei Monaten eine erneute Erinnerung. Den 3-Monats-Mail-Rhythmus habe ich irgendwann aufgegeben \u2013 doch bis heute schicke ich Ron Gilbert jedes Jahr eine Mail. Es ist mittlerweile eine Art Ritual geworden: Jedes Jahr eine Mail mit einer \u00fcberarbeiteten und aktualisierten Interview-Vorlage. Lange habe ich gegr\u00fcbelt, warum Ron Gilbert damals wortlos von seiner Interview-Zusage zur\u00fcckgetreten ist. Zugegeben: Die Fragen des urspr\u00fcnglichen Interviews aus dem Jahr 2011 <em>(siehe unten)<\/em> waren nicht sonderlich besonders, geistreich oder frisch \u2013 aber auch nicht <em>soo<\/em> mies, um f\u00fcr immer unbeantwortet zu bleiben. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Den Grund f\u00fcr das pl\u00f6tzliche Ghosting habe ich Jahre sp\u00e4ter in seinem Thimbleweed-Podcast, den er parallel zur Entwicklung von Thimbleweed Park mit Gary Winnick und <a href=\"\/de?p=3562\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">David Fox<\/a> ver\u00f6ffentlichte, erfahren: Ron Gilbert nutzt Windows (bewusst) nicht als Betriebssystem auf seinem Rechner. Und Ron Gilbert hasst es, so f\u00fchrte er es damals sinngem\u00e4\u00df in einer Podcast-Folge aus, wenn er \u201eMicrosoft-Dateiformate\u201c <em>(DOC, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX)<\/em> geschickt bekommt. Ich habe die Podcast-Folge damals direkt gestoppt, den Computer hochgefahren, im Mail-Archiv 2011 nachgeschaut und mich sofort angesprochen gef\u00fchlt: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8222;Hey Ron! Viel Spa\u00df!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wall Jump:<\/strong> Hello and thank you very much for taking the time for this interview. Would you introduce yourself for our younger readers?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ron Gilbert:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wall Jump:<\/strong> <em>The programmable calculator TI-59 has played a certain role in your life.<\/em> Do you have any idea what would have become of you if you hadn\u2019t fallen for the gaming business?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ron Gilbert:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wall Jump:<\/strong> <em>20 years ago, 10 people could create a game which is still known today. Nowadays over 100 people create games, of which most are forgotten 2 weeks after release.<\/em> What do you think about this development? \/ Do you believe that there will be a rethinking inside the gaming industry during the next couple of years? Or is money always right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ron Gilbert:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wall Jump:<\/strong> How do you see the chances for young creators in the current gaming business? With all these free Dev-Kits and platforms do you think it has become easier to make a name for yourself and actually fulfil your projects?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ron Gilbert:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wall Jump:<\/strong> What kind of advice would you give to young creative brains trying to get into the business or standing at the beginning of a possible career? You know, everyone wants you to tell them something extremely intelligent now\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ron Gilbert:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wall Jump: <\/strong>Let\u2019s come back once again to your career: You were asked once, if you ever create something again that gets such a huge fanbase like it happened with the Monkey Island series. You answered: <em>\u201cThe problem is, you can only do one deal with the Devil and I blew it on a 16-color EGA game.\u201d<\/em> Isn\u00b4t it sad in a way? Don\u2019t you feel sorry that the devil doesn\u2019t knock at the door for a second time?
